What does a path say? Does it keep its promises?

Hazardous Hike

Mom and I went for a short walk yesterday evening.
We saw a bear,
a rattlesnake,
some significant saskatoons,
and a mariposa lily that didn't really want its picture taken. It looked more purple in real life.

My camera has 12x zoom, so those first two pictures aren't as bad as they look.

Joe Lake Hike: Tuck's Perspective

On our recent Joe Lake expedition, we only took one canine companion...
Meet Tuck.
As enthusiastic a hiker as any of us.
Though we did wonder at first about her manner of expressing enthusiasm.

What does a dog look for in a good hike?
Mud, of course.

You can't go undecorated.

All sources of moisture must be felt out...

And other opportunities exploited.

Even a dog likes nice scenery...

It's so inspiring.

Like every good dog, Tuck knows that she has been brought along for companionship.

Peaceful companionship, that is.

A lake is a worthy goal in a dog's mind...

And after every good swim should come a good nap, wouldn't you know?

Joe Lake Hike: Sightings

Creek.
Rabbit.
Manicured Alpine Golfing Green.
Log. Mark.
Bear Cub.

Joe Lake Hike

I'm behind with my blogging. Two weeks ago my brother Guy, our friend Mark and I went on a little hike to Joe Lake - first time for Guy and I. It's one of the local traditions.
Our first glimpse of the alpine after a steady climb up a wooded ridge.

Our destination is behind that hill with the snow patches...
...via this.
There were quite a few little pools of meltwater up on top.
Getting there.
Our goal.
The way back.
We went through some thick, brushy stuff in the creek bottom where we came down. Manmade trails usually show up often in the forest, but in this country they are scarce. The good thing is that log piles aren't so bad when you are descending.

We got back to the vehicle after 13 hours of hiking. Not bad for a day.

I am Annoyed

On Thursday we were with the extended family for our Grandmother's funeral. We took two cameras - I had one, my sister had the other.

And she went
And
Took
All
The
Best
Pictures!

Well... there was one exception.
I got this one.
Excuse me while I go work out an apology for posting it.
