Dusk at Harry Lake

After spending a day and two nights at Newby Lakes, we decided to move on to Harry Lake, for the mosquitos were savage.

On the Edge

From a hike to Newby Lakes, last year. We hiked up to the border on the ridge South of the lakes.

We come up to places like this to nap, you see...

To the North, the long ridge that leads to Snowy Mountain. Beyond it are places like Harry Lake and Joe Lake.

We arrive at The Line.

Border marker number 103...

Which is, it seems, the site of the Armstrong Mountain border incident...

Evidently so embarrassing to both sides that all mention of it has been scrubbed from the history books.

Odd place for a snow bridge

Into Revelation Lake

In June last year, we cut our way into Revelation Lake. It's up in the mountains above Three Valley Gap. As should be evident from the 7' diameter cedar above, things grow vigorously there. It took some cutting.

But we got to the top...

And found that there was still five feet of snow on the ground

Topowap Lake, the first one that we came to. Beautiful blue water poking occasionally through the ice.

Turquoise Lake. It feels big out here.
