Newby Lakes Hike

The first of our two 16 hour day hikes this summer.

We hit the trail at 5:30 AM, and spent most of the day traveling through fairly level terrain.

Some of us decided to hike up to the ridge South of the lakes.

Off in the distance you can see the cut line along the Canada/USA border.

A late cornice on the shadow side.

Upper Newby Lake, in all its glory.

Meltwater on top.

The descent was a bit doubtful. We decided to go down that tongue of snow...

Steeper...

Than...

It...

Looks!

Not shown: the bugs.
