In which we climb the 275 (no, we didn't count) steps to the top of the highest tower of the cathedral at York.
Most of the staircase was a tight, narrow spiral...
But there were occasional irregularities.
About 1/3 of the way up, we came out onto the lower edge of the roof. We had to traverse a catwalk along it to get to the central tower. On our way over, we had a good look at these flying buttresses.
This ladder leads down to another catwalk...
Which threads through these pillars on the way to the front of the cathedral.
We still have to climb up there.
On to the next corkscrew...
Some pedestrians, as seen from the lower roof.
As a comparison, pedestrians viewed from the top tower.
