Winter Scenes

A few more pics from a drive in the mountains.

Mountain Fences

We noticed some strange bars on some of the mountains.

They seem to be installed on steeper bare slopes. Perhaps they help to prevent avalanches.

Up close, they don't look strong enough to hold back an avalanche, but maybe they can prevent one from starting.

Rhine River

Near its source, we were told.

Brigels at Sunrise

There is light on in the cow barns, but the rest of the village is asleep.

The ski hill, dotted with old barns, is still.

The fountains at the watering troughs run faithfully in the cold.

Sunrise will come from over that way.

Ah! First pink on the mountain.

The four way fountain in the village square.

The town thermometer displayed a steady -5 all morning. Maybe it will change when the sun hits it.

Morning from our farm B&B's window.

After the Storm

On our first night in Brigels, a big snowstorm came through. We drove down to the valley in the morning.

Temporary Lines

Things done differently: I like the orange temporary lines in construction zones.

You know you are in Switzerland when...

Swiss Mountain Village

Some detail shots from Breil/Brigels, a Swiss village where we stayed for two nights.

St. Christopher seems to be a local favorite, as all of the churches had a painting of him. He's always shown in water, though not always up to his thighs as in this painting.

At one time that would have been a perfect fit, but alas, logs settle.

When looking through these pictures I realized that we had not captured the way that this village sits in the mountains. I think I did a little better on a later shoot. I'll post that as soon as I can get it ready.
